New Online Services for a New Academic Year

Posted on September 15, 2013

In addition to all the building work in the Boots Library, we’ve also been busy behind the scenes organising the research resources that we have available for staff and students to use.  As part of this we’ve some new items that you can access online.

a-n: The Artists Information Company provides news, analysis, features and up-to-date reportage on all aspects of contemporary visual arts practice.  The site also holds details of jobs and residencies.

Box of Broadcasts (BoB) has an archive of television and radio programmes that have been broadcast in the UK.  If you’ve missed something on iPlayer, BoB should have it.

Entertainment Industry Magazine Archive gives you full text access to a number of archival US and UK trade magazines useful for researching film, theatre, and broadcasting, together with film fan magazines and music press titles.  Publications date from the era of vaudeville and silent movies through to 2000, and as it’s provided by ProQuest, can be cross-searched with the Design and Applied Arts Index, Art Bibliographies Modern, and the Vogue Archive.

Picture Post Historical Archive provides a complete full colourcopy of all of Picture Post, a magazine published between the 1930s and 1950s. “Picture Post’s groundbreaking approach to photo-journalism saw the magazine offer humorous and light-hearted snapshots of British daily life (publishing “thousands of photos of ordinary people doing ordinary things”) to the serious and history-defining moments of domestic and international affairs”.

We’ve also got a few other new services covering different subject areas.  For more information about these, contact your Liaison Librarian.
