JURN – Search Open Access Arts and Humanities Journals

Posted on April 9, 2011

Open Access

Launched in February of 2009, JURN uses the Google custom search engine to make available freely accessible selected/hand-picked, internet-based English language e-journals in the arts and humanities.  There are over 4,200 titles included in the site, from sources such as: DOAJNewJour; and Open Access Newsletter.  The majority of titles are full-text, but a number have partial full-text access.  There are also a number of free book chapters from academic publishers.

Journals included in JURN cover a wide range of subjects, including:

  • Architecture
  • Design and Crafts
  • Theatre and Dance
  • Photography
  • Media
  • Visual Arts

Jurn has a side project, Earworm, which lets you search for academic podcasts, lectures, courseware and radio documentaries.  This includes a number of TED lectures, which we blogged about recently.
