Google have just launched a new service, Google Art Project, which provides zoomable high-resolution images of artworks from several major world museums and galleries, including The Tate, Uffuzi Gallery, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  At the moment the collection holds 1,000 images, but it’s hoped that more will be added.

It utilises Google Street View technology, and in addition to being able to view artworks, you can also take a virtual walk around the galleries.
